“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that remains, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” John. 15:16.

We have been called and commissioned to set out and bear fruits that are lasting. We are not just called to bear fruits, our fruit are supposed to endure, abide and last. The challenge is, anything that will last requires time and patience. Patience is a little bit alien to our generation and dispensation. Everyone is in a hurry to prove a point. Some of the greatest missionaries of history devotedly spread the seed of God's Word and yet had to wait long periods before seeing the fruit of their efforts. William Carey, for example, laboured 7 years before the first Hindu convert was brought to Christ in Burma, and Adoniram Judson toiled 7 years before his faithful preaching was rewarded by seeing his first converts. How long can you wait to see the  fruits of your labour?

Every Christian will bear spiritual fruit. Somewhere, sometime, somehow. Otherwise that person is not a believer. Every born-again individual will be fruitful. Not to be fruitful is to be faithless, without faith, and therefore without salvation. In the natural world, fruit is the result of a healthy plant producing what it was designed to produce. In the Bible, the word fruit is often used to describe a person’s outward actions that result from the condition of the heart. The condition of your heart determines the fruits of your life. If your heart is not right, your fruits cannot be right. Make up your mind to yield yourself to God totally for a more fruitful life.

Jesus told us clearly what we must do to bear good fruit that are enduring. He said, “Abide in Me, and I in you…..” A branch must stay firmly attached to the trunk to stay alive. As disciples of Christ, we must stay firmly connected to Him to remain spiritually productive. A branch draws strength, nourishment, protection, and energy from the vine. If it is broken off, it quickly dies and becomes unfruitful. When we neglect our spiritual life, ignore the Word of God, skimp on prayer, and withhold areas of our lives from the scrutiny of the Holy Spirit, we are like a branch broken off the vine. Our lives become fruitless. We need daily connection for enduring fruitfulness. Selah!
